The CloverPark School District is the 17th largest public school system in Washington State and the fourth largest of 15 in Pierce County. Located immediately south of Tacoma, it encompasses 26 square miles on the western side of the county covering all of suburban Lakewood, Fort Lewis, McCord Air Force Base, Madigan Army Medical Center and American Lake Veterans Hospital. The district serves 13,583 students in 19 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, 2 senior high schools, and 4 special schools. The district's mission is to educate students to achieve success in a diverse, changing world.

Lochburn itself was constructed in 1967 on a 21 acre campus, with lots of shade provided by oak trees, providing a home not only a for students and staff but squirrels, Canadian geese, and possum. There are a total of eight buildings connected by " covered breeze ways" totaling almost 77,000 square feet. The suggested student population when it was built 30 years ago was 619 students. The enrollment average is typically 700 - 750 students. The average class size is approximately 24 students. The facilities are used by 20 different community groups throughout the year to include music activities, sports, Parent Teacher Student Association, Philipino-American Youth Organization, Parents of African American Students and adult training.
