At some point of time in the future the CloverPark School Board will decide upon the policy for allowing students to place personal pages within the Lochburn homepages. Until that is worked out we're kind of stuck.
However........as you browse through these pages note the majority of them have been created by a junior high/middle school scholars or groups of scholars who have adopted a teacher.
The Occupational Outlook Handbook can give you an idea of the jobs that will be HOT in the future. No point in spending a lot of time in school or training for a job which a computer or robot will do in the future. The handbook gives you an idea of the various jobs and the requirements and how much it pays.
This site contains excerpts from the book The Teenager's Guide to the Real World by Marshal Brain. The introduction is about the choices AND control students have about many kinds of decisions they will be making. Chapter One, "Money Really Matters", looks at the issue of money, why we work, why we hear so much about economic news, and why adults frequently fight about money. To understand why money is a serious consideration is to understand why career planning is so important to today's young people. The final excerpt, Chapter 6, "Education is One Key to a Good Job," looks at education as an important key to finding a good job someday. What a person knows determines what they earn. The more we know the more we can make, especially if what we know is important to some segment of the business world.
On March 17, 1937, Amelia Earhart
took to the skies in her Lockheed Electra 10E. Although no one, male
or female, had ever completed this journey, Earhart's goal was to be
the first pilot ever to circumnavigate the globe at it longest point
-- the equator. Sixty years later, on March 17, 1997, pilot Linda
Finch embarks on her adventure of a lifetime when she takes off from
Oakland, CA, to re-create and complete Earhart's heroic expedition.
Finch's journey, called World Flight 1997, is not out to set any
records. Rather, it is a tribute to Earhart's vision and spirit, and
the sharing of a message that is as timeless today as it was sixty
years ago. Lochburn scholars will be virtually travelling with Linda
as she travels around the world stopping on 5 continents and 20
countries. Starting in the United States she will head South to
Brazil and navigate the Atlantic to Africa , over the Indian Ocean to
India, Sinapore, Northern Australia, Honolulu, and back to Oakland,
California. It should be a very interesting journey allowing our
scholars the opportunity to explore the World. We begin our journey
with Linda, March 17, 1997 and will be welcoming her back in June.
Linda successfully made her Around the World flight and with it brought students in our country and state the opportunity to explore with her. We all thank her for taking the chance, and making her dreams come true as well as letting us know that the dream is the first step, then a lot of work follows to make the dream come true. Believing we can do it is the biggest step.
This semester
(Fall of 96) all of Mr. Tarleton's scholars participated in the
National Student/Parent Mock election. The purpose of this election
was to educate the scholars about the purpose of the General
elections occurring on the 5th of November. They voted for President,
Governor, two initiatives, and 7 general issues. The National results
can be viewed at<
http://allpolitics.com/candidates/mock.election/result.shtml >
Lochburn's results will be forthcoming, though they were leaning
towards Clinton, Locke, school charter and vouchers.
During the 95-96 School year. A team of students in Mr. Tarleton's Class (Tech Ed) participated in "Elroy's Netscapade" and won first prize for answering the questions posed and helping Elroy prove his innocence.

The contest allowed the students to gain an understanding of how the "internet" is a treasure trove of information. A Library at their fingertips. They won the following prizes for themselves and Lochburn. We'd like to thank them for their efforts.
Special Thanks to Headbone Interactive who took an interest in the kids and put the contest together along with the other sponsors. To contact Headbone via landline (206) 323-0073 or http://www.headbone.com
