Many restaurants in Puerto Vallarta are very inexpensive. A full meal can be found for less then $2.50 u.s. if you search around. The best thing to do is to check out the restaurant and the menu first.
Another way to save money is to get a hotel room with a kitchen and buy some food from the market. There is a great supermarket near all the inexpensive hotels called SUPER MERCADO GUTIERREZ RIZO. It is located at the corner of Constitucion and Serdan.
The most inexpensive restaurants are upstairs in the public market next to the bridge over Rio Cuale. These small family owned restaurants, called (fondas), serve up some of the best mexican food around. At 10 pesos( $1.40 u.s.) for a full meal it is definitly the best deal .
