Due to the depth and relative obscurity this wreck is seldom dove on. Consequently much of the original equipment and artifacts are still in place.
The PV-2D rests on it’s top with the tail wheel extended. Today the landing gear assembly is still intact and has enough grease in the bearings for the wheel to spin freely.
Time hasn’t been kind to all the surfaces of this PV-2D. Much of the rudder surfaces have deteriorated, however the main structure is still in tact.
The maintenance record shows the control surfaces of this PV-2D were sloppy. On September 4th, 1947 the pilot reported problems on takeoff and shortly after ditched the aircraft.
